Bi And Large

And now, for my 100th post milestone on BlogSpirit, I can announce the arrival of Iris Linnea Fitzgerald!

She was born Friday, Jan 27th at 2:45 in the afternoon. (She shares a birthdate with Sharree and a birthday with her auntie Jules!)

8lbs, 9oz and 21" long.

She's the spitting image of her big sister, just the spitting image - so close that even I as their mum couldn't tell the two apart in photos except for the quality of the camera taking the shot.

Her birth was very difficult and also VERY wonderful. The staff we had lined up were all fantastic and even the ones we didn't think of were angels. I've neevr been so happy to see an anaesthesiologist in my entire life! They were great at supporting us when it got difficult and I walked out of the delivery room on my own two feet feeling like a million dollars.

She was born with the cord very tightly knotted around her neck, and for a long time after she was born she didn't move or breathe or cry or change colors from an awful purply grey. She came out and they whisked her off to the NICU without letting me see her at first which was hard... but in less than an hour she was back in my arms, breathing OK, making little mewling noises if not a cry, and she even nursed a little. After that she's just been on the improve every hour and she is now a perfect lovely little thing! I'm very, very grateful that my Dr. had the wisdom not to listen to me and let her induction go for another day.

Anyway, pictures and birth story coming, but for now I'm exhausted and we're not sleeping much! So I'll fill you in on all the details when I can.
