This just grieves me
I know, 2 posts within 24 hours today, are you falling down from shock yet?
It's 3am and I have to get some sleep, but I just need to get off my chest that it makes me ache, it hurts me right down to the centre of my being, when people do hurtful, horrible things and then claim it is because of their religious beliefs. And when called on being a hateful bitch, they get self righteous and defensive, and claim persecution, and talk big about all their rights being trampled on. When they fail to see the family they just ground into the mud under their heel because they seem to think that's God's work.
Listen. I dont know of any religion - not ANY - that asks its followers to be mean hateful and hurtful. Period. Believe what you want, I really don't care. It doesn't affect me any. But stop going around humiliating, harming, dehumanizing, and disempowering other human beings that you don't like and then act like you have the moral high ground. You are misusing your religion as a front for hurtful behaviour, and it's horrible to watch.
Ick.

Back to daily life
We're all slowly getting better. Finally! Back and forth to the doctor, several rounds of antibiotics for secondary infections, lots of rest, lots of time. But we're starting to feel human again. Thank God. What a crazy cold and flu season this is already! And I hope everyone understands why it makes me feel so damn paranoid. I still have quite a bit of pain in my chest and it makes me so uneasy. Ugh. Anyway onto the positive... yes we're all improving.
We had a hectic day today, even though we only accomplished one thing! I took both girls to the zoo and we spent all day there. They have redone portions of our zoo and it looks SO much better and has much cooler stuff to do and see now! Their area with native state animals in it has huge new exhibits that are so cool with packs of grey wolves and coyotes, and in the coyote exhibit you can go into a little room and see into their dens! There was a bald eagle eating something literally 2 feet away from us, and a mountain lion, and a cool room full of raccoons tumbling all over each other, and tanks of turtles that Iris loved, and a child-height exhibit of frogs that Amy adored where you could push a button for each one and hear their call. We also saw all the standard zoo stuff and spent a huge amount of time in the aquarium. Iris was very taken with the dolphins and spent ages just curled up next to their tank gazing into it. Amy found the touch tank with leopard sharks and rays, and she SHRIEKED across the room when she touched a ray "I DID IT! MUM I DID IT! I TOUCHED ONE!!!!!" I asked her what it felt like and she said, "Ummm, rotten chicken."
Yeah. As if she even knows what rotten chicken feels like.... We played in the tidal wave pool and touched starfish and looked at the cool seahorses. We saw tapirs and giant tortoises and sunbears and lemurs and red pandas and flamingos.... did I mention (to non locals) that this is all INDOORS? All of this, because it's so cold here, is inside! They have an outdoor area too for animals that handle the cold better (they have like, moose. And reindeer) but all of the stuff we saw today is heated indoors. It's not small either, it's all very bright and open and you walk on trails among growing plants and trees just as if you were outside. It's way cool. ![]()
Anyway we left after breakfast in the morning and we got home about 4:30pm! No one napped
I wanted to, especially while driving home - it was rough staying awake! But of course the girls got into crazy hyper overtired phase and were nuts the rest of the night. Pete came home and let me go crash in bed for a bit and took the girls to Maccas for some healthy chicken nuggets and fries
(whatever, they ate) and they should sleep VERY well tonight. Tomorrow is a school day for Amy so maybe Iris and I can relax and catch up on all the housework I ignored today.
I'm beat from walking for so long but it sure was fun ![]()

Pass the Vitamin C
I'm doing WAY better on the antibiotics, they have helped immensely. But I am still sick and rundown, the girls are sick, and this morning Pete went into the doctor because he has been so sick for so long and getting worse, not better.
They think he has pertussis / whooping cough.
What is UP with our family this year? We have no immune systems? Really bad year for infections? I swear we eat well and drink water and sleep and wash our hands. It's so odd. And it's only the beginning of October. It is going to be a very long winter, I think.

My sickies
I just got back from spending my afternoon at the doctor, again.
I have an ear infection and sinus infection. When I got there I had a fever, high bp and pulse, and I was having some trouble breathing. They got me all fixed up and sent me home eventually with a z-pack (antibiotics) and some prednisone (steroids, for the congestion and breathing) and strict instructions to rest and keep fluids up. I even have low dose aspirin to prevent clots - which is a huge relief, because trust me, I had not missed the similarities between my blog recently and Sam's last month or two of entries. :(
Now, how does one manage to 'rest' when you have two young children???

I am sill alive
I'm here. I'm sill sick. It seems we all caught influenza (not stomach flu, real flu) and that was responsible for the weeks of fever and aches and pains and fatigue. Icky.
I was just about better and then I spent a Sunday slogging around in the rain and mud at the Renaissance Fair with the family and Greg. It was really fun, but now I'm sick again. More fever, more snotty drippy nose, more coughing up gunk. My sinuses are killing me. Yay.
So I am not intentionally ignoring the blog. Honest. I just feel SO crummy and we've been sick for so long, there's a lot I have neglected. I'm sorry!
